Bee Green represent the Isle of Man in Stockholm

At the end of July Bee Green, the Ramsey Grammar School team that won the PDMS Trophy, main sponsors for our JA Company of the Year Competition, flew to Stockholm to compete in the JA-YE European Finals.

This group of fine young people were a credit to the Isle of Man. Although they did not win, the judges said, "We were extremely impressed with the strong ambition of thinking environmentally and being commercially successful. Keep your spirit and enthusiasm for the environment. We are confident that you will succeed." We are very proud of them.

We share a unique opportunity to help shape the destiny of young people in the Island, as well as contributing to the international dimension that the JA/YE European and world wide organisations represent. Junior Achievement Isle of Man is a Freedom to Flourish Champion and as such we wish to develop an organisation that creditably promotes and represents the Island on the world stage.

Change Marks 25 Years for Junior Achievement

Isle of Man Charity Announces New Board of Directors, New Website and New Premises as Part of Silver Anniversary Celebration

Junior Achievement Isle of Man, a charity dedicated to educating of young people about business, economics and enterprise, is kicking off its 25th Anniversary celebrations by announcing a new Board of Directors, launching a new website and moving into new, larger offices.

Ian Galloway, chief executive of Junior Achievement Isle of Man (JA IOM), said "We have 25 years of success upon which to build and the changes we are announcing today are part of our strategy for continued growth. Our new board members represent a wide range of industries and experience and we are very proud to welcome them."

The Board members are:
Chairman, Jim Dale, Chairman, Carphone Warehouse Insurance; John Cain, Director of Education; Chris Corlett, Chief Executive of the Isle of Man Department of Trade and Industry; Ian Galloway, CEO Junior Achievement IoM; Barrie Clark, Chairman PDMS; Richard Holt, Ronaldsway Aircraft Company; Hamish Ross, now retired but formerly Managing Director Isle of Man Steam Packet Company; Sarah Sanders, Associate Partner at Deloitte; Alan Smith, Director, HSBC; Ron Spencer, Director, Canada Life International and Catherine Turner, Head of Business Risk at AXA IoM.

JA IOM offers a range of programmes, based on the principle of learning by doing, which brings volunteers from business and the local community into the classroom to work with teachers and students. Some programmes enable students to work together to run their own real company. Others use games, hands on activities and role play to develop skills and capabilities for business and enterprise.

Junior Achievement has recently moved to a new office in Station Road, Port Erin. Ian Galloway explains, "Five years ago we had fewer than 250 children and young people in the Isle of Man involved in Junior Achievement. Now we have more than 2,500 students participating. We needed bigger offices to accommodate the larger workload and our new home fits the bill perfectly."
