Volunteers
Through becoming a Junior Achievement volunteer, you can make a real difference to the lives and potential of young people on the Isle of Man by helping them to understand the world of business and to prepare for their working lives.
Junior Achievement provides a volunteer pack containing information on the programme and how to present/facilitate it. Volunteers are not alone! Junior Achievement provides training and support. For most Junior Achievement programmes two volunteers share the responsibilities of the role.
There is no previous experience or expert knowledge required of a volunteer, other than their own experience of work and business and their enthusiasm. Junior Achievement volunteers act as role models from the world of work to young people who have, in many cases, volunteered to become involved.
You will not be on your own! You will be working alongside teachers/lecturers and in some cases other volunteers with specifically designed programmes. You will receive a volunteer pack containing all you need to know about the programme and how to present/facilitate it. The time commitment varies depending on the programme, some are five or six sessions others run for an academic year. In the case of the five or six session programmes these can be run either as full days or as shorter sessions over a number of weeks. The programmes that run for one or more academic year require one to two hours attendance a week during term time.
More information about each programme can be found by looking at the Programmes Overview.
As well as offering a learning experience for students, Junior Achievement programmes also bring learning benefits for the Volunteers who are encouraged to develop their own skills and knowledge alongside the students.
Junior Achievement Volunteers are welcomed from all walks of life, and do not necessarily have to work in business. Many Junior Achievement volunteers are retired business people or those nearing retirement.
Junior Achievement already receives generous help with funding from many local businesses and the Isle of Man Government. Equally important is the help in kind given by businesses and the time given by business people to support students undertaking our programmes.
