STEP UP FOR JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT IN THE BIG SUMMER WALK
Thursday 11 June 2020
Junior Achievement Isle of Man is calling on people across the Island to put their best foot forward and step up for The Big Summer Walk.
The goal is to walk, jog or run 100km between 15th June and 7th September, raising as much money as possible for Junior Achievement in the process. Sponsored by Chase Wealth Solutions, the fundraising challenge will keep the whole family on their toes and is a great way to keep active, explore the Island and enjoy some family time over the summer months.
It is free to sign up and there is no minimum fundraising amount required: the charity just asks that everyone raises as much as they can. Every individual who completes the challenge and raises £35 or more will be rewarded with The Big Summer Walk medal, with other great prizes up for grabs too, including:
- Best photograph – the winning photo will be made into an eye-catching canvas
- Best video – Akaso 4K Sport Action waterproof camera with Ultra HD
- Most money raised by an individual – Fitbit Inspire HR fitness tracker
- Most money raised by a family or group – voucher for a stay in a Glen Helen luxurious glamping pod, kindly donated by Glen Helen Glamping
In October, a team of people from the Isle of Man were due to participate in the El Camino De Santiago Trek in northern Spain; a five-day 100km trek through one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in the world. The trek was expected to raise more than £20,000 for Junior Achievement, but due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic it had to be cancelled.
This loss was a huge hit for the charity which, like many, is reliant on fundraising and events to continue its work and help the Island’s young people gain the essential skills they need when they leave full time education. The charity was keen to re-work the trek and launch a Manx, family-friendly version suitable for all ages and abilities that people could participate in over the summer.
Junior Achievement Chief Executive Sue Cook said: ‘By supporting our charity and taking part in The Big Summer Walk, you will enable us to continue our work with more than 5,000 children across the Island to help them develop the skills they will need to get a job or start their own business once they leave education.
‘The Big Summer Walk is designed to be a fun challenge which will get you out and about over the next few months, tracking your steps and exploring parts of the Island you may have never been before! We want it to have a real ‘feel-good’ community feel to it and will be sharing lots of photos, different routes to try and encouraging messages on our social media channels along the way.
‘We’d like to say a huge thank you to Chase Wealth Solutions for offering to support this challenge – we’re incredibly grateful. Also a big thanks to our wonderful prize supporters.
Paul Chase, Managing Director of Chase Wealth Solutions, added: ‘Chase Wealth are delighted to sponsor this great initiative. We have always admired the work that Junior Achievement do to help the young people of our Island into successful employment and this seems a perfect opportunity to support such a family focused, fun challenge that is sure to get the Island moving; and all for a worthwhile cause! We will certainly be lacing up our trainers, filling up those water bottles and joining in to help ‘achieve’ the target!’
